Taman Rimba Kiara was part of the rubber estates that covered Bukit Kiara many years ago.  When the Bukit Kiara rubber estates were acquired by the government, the land comprising Taman Rimba Kiara was set aside as a large scale nursery, to support & serve the intended Kuala Lumpur Botanical Park in the larger Bukit Kiara area. The workers from the rubber estates were resettled in longhouses next to the nursery, and were promised future permanent housing by the authorities.  Many of these workers were employed to work in the nursery, which grew over the years to become Taman Rimba Kiara in its beautiful & mature form today.

Taman Rimba Kiara also carries additional character because of the Sri Maha Mariamman Bukit Kiara Hindu temple, founded in 1937, that sits near the entrance to the park.  This 80-year old temple has a faithful and active following.  It offers a quiet example of the symbiosis of spirituality and nature.

The Peace Garden - In 2004, the Pan-Pacific and South-East Asia Women’s Association (PPSEAWA) created the PPSEAWA Peace Garden in Taman Rimba Kiara. This was launched by YABhg Tun Dr Siti Hasmah in 2004 in commemoration of the 20th PPSEAWA international conference in Kuala Lumpur in 1997. There is a arch and plaque in Taman Rimba Kiara to mark this special occasion. PPSEAWA celebrates the International Day of Peace annually at this park. This year, PPSEAWA organised a Walk for Peace at Taman Rimba Kiara on 21 September 2017 to commemorate International Peace Day.
